- MY THOUGHTS -
I
think this novel really captured the struggle of loving someone who doesn’t
seem capable of loving you back in the way you need. It shows the hard
decisions you need to make and the process of finally learning to put yourself
first. Tenny had spent so much time letting her life revolve around her best
friend, employer and crush and accepting what he was willing to give her. Her deciding
that she needed to take control of her own life and distance herself from the
painful situation is what really disturbs the status quo and gets Dom to see
her as more than just that sad little brown-eyed girl he met in the foster system.
When
Dom and Tenny finally decide to take their friendship into the bedroom, the sex
is passionate, dirty and addictive. They know it’s a bad idea but it’s
something they just can’t resist. And despite having the whole “this is just sex…we need to make sure we’re
still friends after this” conversation, we know, and I think they do on
some level, that this setup is just going to result in at least one person getting
their heart broken. It takes Dom a little while to realize that Tenny means
more to him than his career ever could but when he finally gets there he’s all
about the romantic gestures and showing her that she’s never been a liability,
but rather an inspiration and guiding force in his life.
Both
Tenny and Dom have their own personal scars and emotional struggles. Despite
having always been there for each other, it’s interesting to see how they have to
learn to find their own personal strength and overcome their burdens before they’re
capable of really being together. I loved seeing Tenny make tough decisions and take charge of creating her own happiness. It was pretty empowering and inspiring.
I
really enjoyed the friendship and group dynamic in this novel. The supporting
characters were great for providing perspective into the couple’s situation and
I actually really enjoyed getting to know their individual personalities. Ronin
sounds like my kind of guy. The author did a great job of making you interested
in the supporting characters and wanting to read more of the series to find out
how some of the other friends find love.
