CHASING LADY AMELIA (Keeping Up with the Cavendishes #2) by Maya Rodale

Blurb
In the second novel of Maya Rodale’s enchanting Keeping Up with the Cavendishes series, an American heiress finds her reputation—and heart—in danger when she travels to London and meets a wickedly tempting rake
Terribly Improper
Lady Amelia is fed up with being a proper lady and wishes to explore London, so one night she escapes . . . and finds herself in the company of one Alistair Finlay-Jones. He’s been ordered by his uncle to wed one of the American girls. How lucky, then, that one of them stumbles right into his arms!

Totally Scandalous

Alistair and Amelia have one perfect day to explore London, from Astley’s Amphitheater to Vauxhall Gardens. Inevitably they end up falling in love and making love. If anyone finds out, she will be ruined, but he will win everything he’s ever wanted.

Very Romantic

When Amelia finds out Alistair has been ordered to marry her, he must woo her and win back the angry American girl. But with the threat of scandals, plural, looming . . . will he ever catch up to the woman he loves?

MY THOUGHTS

What started as a drugged attempt at seeking out the source of a beautiful singing voice turned into a perfect day of freedom, and a chance at true love. Amelia and Alistair definitely had an unconventional start, which is only fitting as she's an unconventional lady. She's spirited and funny and feels completely out of place in the world of London High Society, where everyone (even her beloved siblings) seems to want her to change and become someone else to blend in with the simpering, bored members of the Ton. So when Amelia finds herself out of the house, with a chance at finally seeing all the exciting, "unladylike" parts of London she's always been denied, she seizes her opportunity at one perfect day - with a perfectly handsome and charming companion.

Alistair has always been searching for a place that felt like home. But he never expected to find that sense of belonging and homecoming in the eyes of a disheveled young lady whom his uncle requested he marry. His genuine admiration and passion for Amelia is completely independent of his need to redeem himself in the eyes of his uncle and finally find acceptance, but he can't help but feel a bit dirty about lying to her. Despite Alistair's ulterior motives, and his slightly frustrating decision to distance himself from Amelia because he can't protect her, I loved him as a hero. I think the reader understands from the get-go that what he's feeling is genuine and confusing for him, even if he does some things for slightly selfish reasons. He's just the perfect match for our lively, sassy heroine. He never tries to tame or change her and always encourages her to be herself.

I adored the way in which Amelia and Alistair fell into each other's paths and spent "the perfect day" falling into love. I can't tell you how much I was dying to know what happened to Amelia during the day she went missing in the first novel and I wasn't disappointed. This was such a fun read for me and I can't wait to see what Maya Rodale has in store for us in the next book in the series!
