Cream eyeshadows are probably my favorite formula to work with because they're just a breeze to apply. I'm all about a lazy, dab-on-and-go eye look. Eyeshadow crayons are even easier to apply because you don't have to dip your fingers into the product, risking getting some stuck under your nail, and you can apply straight from the pencil. They're also inherently easier to travel with and apply on the go. But I don't want to digress too much into the many virtues of eyeshadow crayons because what I'm really here to talk about is Maybelline's new Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayons!
When I saw that these crayons were being released I knew I wanted them right away. I'm a die hard fan of the original Maybelline Color Tattoos ('Bad to the Bronze' is basically my everything) but dipping your fingers in the pot, especially when it gets lower can be a bit annoying. I've been praying that they'd duplicate their formula into a crayon application for years and so it was a bit hard to contain my glee.
I, being the neutral lover that I am, went for the shades Bronze Truffle (taupe bronze) and Creamy Chocolate (warm bronze). Right off the bat I was impressed with how creamy and pigmented these shadows are. They don't drag across the lid and they blend like a dream. After about a minute they fully set to a budge-proof finish. I kind of expected them to shift when I tried the smudge test because of how creamy they are, so I might have let out an excited "oooohhhh" when they stood their ground.
Now, I'm sure some of you are dying to know how these measure up against the Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze. In terms of longevity these just didn't hold up as well on my oily lids. Normally I can wear Bad to the Bronze on my lids, without a primer, and have it last all day. By the end of the day with the concentrated crayons I could barely see any color left on my lids and what was there was creased. Womp womp. If your lids are on the drier side I think this would fare much better on you but for me, the original Color Tattoos' slightly drier and thicker formula just holds up better through my work day.
So, are these worth the purchase? I'd definitely say so. They're creamy, pigmented and have gorgeous shades you'll want to wear everyday. And they're so easy to apply you'll be able to slap them on even on mornings when you're running a bit late. Do they top the original Color Tattoos? My oily lids and I say no, though gals with drier skin might just disagree. Either way, they're a great addition to my cream shadow collection and if their longevity were just amped up a bit, I could totally see these becoming a holy grail product for me.
