Monthly Beauty Favorites | May 2015

It's that time again when I like to give you all a round-up of what products I've been loving in the past month. May was a particularly rough month beauty-wise, so there was definitely a lot more trial and error than I normally go through. This month was all about hydrating my skin and finding no-fuss pastel makeup to perk up my complexion for the Spring. Here's what I was loving:

SKINCARE
My skin was in an awful state this past month after trying a new, harsher acne spot treatment that left my face flaky and dehydrated. Applying makeup was a nightmare as everything would cake on the dry patches and get pulled into my pores. I knew I needed to seriously up my moisturizing game if I expected to look half-way presentable and found some little beauties in my stash to save the day. The Origins Drink Up Overnight Intensive Mask was one I never thought I'd get much use out of because of my oily skin but after slathering it on before bed I woke up with smooth, plump-looking skin. I was honestly so impressed that I used it a few nights in a row. To break up the routine I also worked the Mitchell and Peach Flora No. 1 Fine Radiance Face Oil into my nightly routine. It smells faintly of lavender and after applying just a few drops at night I woke up with brighter, more even skin. And it didn't break me out! Major win.

I also tried a new eye treatment last month, Dr. Lili Fan Probiotic Age-Defying Eye Serum, which my lovely sister-in-law gave me. It has a clear gel texture that tingles and cools, a bit like icy-hot for your eyes. That might sound pretty uncomfortable but I actually enjoy it because you can almost feel the skin around your eyes tightening. Plus, who doesn't love a good pump? Another cooling, relaxing product I loved this month was Mario Badescu's Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb & Rosewater. A few spritzes of this rosy goodness and my skin felt a bit more hydrated and refreshed. It's definitely not a skin game-changer but it's calming and enjoyable. The only product I used all month to take off my makeup and degunkify my face after a long day at work was my Bioderma Sebium H20 Micelle Solution. It feels like water on your skin and doesn't irritate it. When I had to completely redo my makeup because of how awfully it applied due to my skin's dehydration this is what I used to take it all off without leaving behind a greasy mess.

MAKEUP
My makeup in May seemed to be all about the pastels. Although I originally thought Milani's Baked Blush in Luminoso was just too peach for my taste (usually more into pink blushes), I finally started to see what all the fuss was about last month. When you apply it to the tops of your cheeks it adds a beautiful glow to the face which is prefect for a subtle Spring look. Last month I also finally picked up the MAC Lipstick in Patisserie, which I had my eye on for ages. It's the perfect nudey-pink lipstick, with a touch of shine and shimmer, that goes with absolutely everything. On the eyes I was really having a love affair with lavender and lilac shadows. Not only do they add a lovely, springy pop of color but they really accentuate my brown eyes. The MAC Paint Pot in Stormy Pink is a creamy hybrid of grey and purple that lasts all day on my lids without creasing and is a breeze to apply. This baby got some serious love this past month.

Those were all my beauty favorites last month! My skin is finally more or less back to normal so I can't wait to play around with some new items I've picked up recently. What have you been loving lately? Anything I should check out? Let me know in the comments below!
