Review + Giveaway | Touch & Go by Mira Lyn Kelly

Vivacious and successful, Ava Meyers is living her dream life, except for one thing: Ever since childhood, she’s been in love with her best friend . . . and she’s never admitted it. Back then, Sam Farrow was a damaged young man with a tough past. Now he’s supremely confident, super-sexy, and totally untouchable—until the night when Sam pretends to be Ava’s boyfriend to save her from some unwanted attention. In a moment of weakness, Ava finds out that a long friendship is no match for blistering sexual chemistry.

After years of denying his own feelings, Sam finds that one amazing night with Ava isn’t enough to chase away all the pent-up fantasies. So he proposes they spend a few weeks driving each other wild, exhausting their every desire, and then return to their perfect platonic relationship like nothing ever happened. But Sam’s plan has one fatal flaw: the part where they give each other up. Because the more they let go of their inhibitions, the more they’re tempted to never go back.

MY THOUGHTS
When Ava needs a date to her company party to discourage some unwanted attention, she begs her life-long best friend and secret crush, Sam, to help her out. But when their pretend relationship leads to a scorching kiss both friends are left hungry for more. Though Ava has always been in love with Sam, she has kept their relationship platonic not wanting to risk their friendship and the comfort and support that Sam has found as a part of her family. She keeps her feelings for him a secret, even when they embark on a physical affair, knowing that their group of friends and their bond are incredibly important to Sam.

Try as she might, Ava can't keep her feelings for Sam completely under wraps. The more time they spend together, in and out of bed, the harder they start to fall for each other. But Sam is not the forever type and, as much as he always dreamed of marrying Ava as a child and becoming a part of her family, he's terrified of taking their friendship to the next step and doing something to hurt Ava and destroy their friendship. He's wanted her for as long as he can remember but kept true to the promise he made to her brother and father.

When emotional lines start to get blurred and they end their affair Ava goes on an extended business trip, taking the opportunity to put some distance between herself and the man who she can't help but love. Distance, longing and the discovery that Ava has always been in love with him force Sam to come to terms with his own feelings for her.

I've always been a big fan of Friends-to-Lovers romances and this was a great example. I loved those little flashbacks to Ava and Sam as children. They really helped you understand why Ava kept her love a secret and how much of a role her family played in Sam's growing up. She spends years accepting what she can get from Sam and having to watch him go off into dark corners with strange women because endures it because she knows how important their friendship is to him.

Sam was a little annoying at times because of his complete inability to realize Ava was interested in him. In his defense, she had been lying to him since they met as children, but c'mon! She asked you to take her virginity and she's always cuddling with you and touching you. I think she might like you, dude.

The sex scenes, though! Wow! I love how the intimacy and the intensity grew each time they were together. Plus, Sam's dirty mouth was icing on the cake, The scenes were definitely creative, fun and sexy as hell. I don't think I'll ever look at a tool belt the same way.

This was my first read from Mira Lyn Kelly but I would definitely read more. She has a great way of really making you feel for the characters. Sometimes, when Sam was being particularly dense or when we saw the way Ava's parent's took him in, I felt a tiny, throbbing ache in my heart. No, I don't like it when my heart hurts, but I love it when a novel makes me genuinely feel things. When I get so caught up in a character's life I feel those pains and joys that they would be feeling. I really enjoyed Touch & Go and  I can't wait to see what happens to Ford. Who will his lucky lady be?
