Being both an avid reader and a candle lover, nothing makes me happier than the idea of bringing both of those worlds together. I usually have a candle burning in the background while I dive into a new book and I feel like it really adds a nice, cozy ambiance to the experience. I recently got to try some soy candles from Chi Candle made especially with book lovers in mind and have been burning them off and on for the last few weeks.
New Books* is a candle designed to smell like and invoke the feeling
of cracking open a new book. This candle is describes as “A
blend of crisp pages, ambered glue, and fresh ink, and a touch of
cedarwood and driftwood...”.
If
the idea of having your home smell like a book seems a bit weird, let
me reassure you. It was surprisingly very fresh
and clean smelling, while actually still reminding me of a freshly
printed novel. I don't know how exactly they found that balance but
it totally does work as a scent that I would want to have in my home.
It's an airier scent that's not overwhelmed by the notes of
woodiness, but rather grounded by them.
Old Books* on the other hand, is made for those who love the smells
of an old library. It's described as “A
woody, soft and lovely fragrance with notes of aged paper, aged
leather, and a touch of wooden bookshelf, softened with subtle notes
of sandalwood”.
This
scent is like the more experienced, more worldly older sister of
New
Books.
There's still that underlying fresh scent that you find in the other
candle, but with a woodier, muskier
fragrance that totally reminds me of being in a cozy leather wingback
chair and cracking open a dusty, well-loved tome.
One
thing I really loved about these candles is the adorable hand-blown
apothecary bottles that they come in. I think the design is timeless
and clean, yet really suits the book lover vibe they were going for.
It's easily something that would fit the décor in any home. I was
also pleasantly surprised with how much scent these candles actually
throw off. They
really fill the room with scent.
If
you're a book lover like myself and enjoy the unmistakable fragrances
that accompany them, these candles might be for you. They make the
reading experience all the cozier, while leaving your home smelling
great. Chi Candle also has a few other scents tailored to
book lovers, like Bookstore
and Rainy
Day Reads.
Rainy
Day Reads
is definitely calling my name because to me there's no better time to
read than on a dreary, stormy evening. If you're not as keen on
having your home smell like books, they also have a wide selection
of scents to satisfy all kinds of tastes. I'm a bit of a candle
addict and Mediterranean
Fig – Teakwood,
Cozy
Village,
and Sage
& Lemongrass
sound right up my alley.
If
you have a book lover or candle addict in your life, go check out Chi
Candles. I think they'd make a lovely holiday or birthday gift.
