Several month ago Tarte released their
new Shape Tape Contour Concealer and the beauty world seemed to go
crazy over it. Even with its original limited shade range, the
concealer was so incredibly popular that it was out of stock for
quite a while. When it returned, they added additional shades and
people like myself, the curious beauty lovers of the world, snatched
one up hoping the hype was substantiated. After testing it for a
few months I'm very pleased to say that it totally is!
Shape Tape is a full coverage concealer
that's not messing around. It goes on with a light feel but a level
of coverage that I've never seen from another liquid concealer. That
said, it blends in easily and doesn't catch on dry patches or sink
into pores. I've used this both under my eyes and to conceal
blemishes and have never had a problem with it in either respect. The
finish is matte and beautiful, and though you don't really need to
set it with powder I always do (because not powdering my oily skin always makes
me feel like I'm asking for trouble).
The doe-foot applicator on this
concealer is actually much larger than what you'd find in a typical
concealer. Because Shape Tape is so high in coverage and the
applicator is so large it could be really easy to overdo it. The best
way to apply this is to use the tip to dot on the concealer, rather than swiping.
My recommendation would be to start with a small amount so you can
really see what you're working with because you'll probably need way
less product than you think you do. This concealer is so impressive in fact
that on many days I'll just wear this under my eyes and on any spots,
without any foundation. And by the end of the work day my concealer
is still there.
Honestly, even though it's a bit pricey
at $24, I absolutely think this is worth it. This concealer
completely blows other cult favorites like the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30) and the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer ($28) out of
the water. It combines the kind of coverage you would typically only
get from a thicker pot concealer with an amazingly light feeling
formula that isn't tacky or drying. And you can't beat the ease of
application either. This is the kind of concealer that dreams are
made of. If you're in the market for a concealer that will actually
do just that – conceal the imperfections you want to hide and
camouflage darkness – this is the one to invest in.
Tarte's Shape Tape Concealer is currently only available from Tarte's website and Ulta. No word on when or if Sephora will carry it.
