Frugal February & Project Use It Up

Between quite a few hauls, some impulse purchases and a ton of holiday beauty gifts, I've racked up quite a bit of makeup in the last couple of months. My makeup drawers are overflowing, my skincare shelves are packed and my beauty cup runneth over. In an attempt to make a dent in my collection and curb my spending, I've decided to institute a month long beauty spending ban which I'm calling 'Frugal February'.

There are only 2 exclusions to my beauty-related spending ban this month:

  1. If the item is a gift for someone else, as I do know a few people who have birthdays this month.
  2. If I run out of deodorant - because no one wants that.

I even have a few beauty gift cards which I will not be using until after the month is over. The spending ban is only related to beauty products or services so I can in theory spend money on clothing if needed, but I will be trying to limit my spending all around as well.

If you've been following my blog for a while you might remember I instituted a spending ban once before and it was actually really successful. I found that the key is to ignore sale emails, stay away from the beauty aisle at the drugstore and just add things I have my eye on to my wishlist. Since my birthday is coming up in March I'm sure I'll be getting some new products then. The rules of my spending ban are these

I'm actually really looking forward to shopping my stash and finding new favorites among products I already own. I also want to make a serious effort this month to use up things that are nearing their end. I can't tell you how many concealers and skincare items I have that have about 1/3 left but I just lost interest in them and moved on to something else. I want to use things consistently and empty the containers so they are no longer cluttering up my space. Overcrowding just makes getting ready more stressful and I'm risking products going bad on me. So for me, February will be about getting rid of things in my collection via #ProjectUseItUp as well as not adding any new purchases to the mix.

But don't fret! There will be tons of beauty posts and new product reviews on the blog this month. I've got a lot of items which I either recently purchased or received for Christmas that I'm still in the process of testing, so stay tuned!
