Playing With Crayons: Clinique's Whole Lotta Chubby Set

I recently came across this adorable little set of Clinique Chubby Sticks on Sephora's website and just had to pick it up. I'd never actually tried any of their Chubbies but had heard great things about them from various bloggers. I love using products in a crayon format because they make getting ready so much easier. You just dab on some product, blend it with fingers and you're set. For a lazy beauty lover who's always running late a whole set of crayon products sounded like heaven.

Another reason this set really appealed to me was that it includes a range of mini versions of their Chubby Sticks for lips, eyes and cheeks. The box contains a Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in Bountiful Beige, a Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm in Amped Up Apple and three Chubby Sticks for Lips, in formulas ranging from sheer to intense, in Poppin’ PoppyCurvy Candy and Mightiest Maraschino. That means you can pretty much do your whole face (minus your base) with this set! I think that all the colors are extremely wearable and perfect for an everyday look.

In terms of the product breakdown, I really loved the Chubby Stick Cheek Colour in Amped Up Apple. It's an odd color to nail down but I would describe it as a dusky, terracotta rose. The formula is incredibly light, unsticky and very pigmented. It blends into the cheeks like a dream and a little dab goes a long way. I was actually a bit disappointed with the Shadow Tint for Eyes in Bountiful Beige. The color is a beautiful golden champagne which swatches beautifully on my hands. The problem is when it gets on my lids. Since the formula is a bit thin it's somewhat sheer on the lids which means I end up layering it to try to build up the color. It also probably doesn't help that the color is pretty close to my natural skin color. Unfortunately this light formula just doesn't not hold up on my oily eye lids and by the end of the day it has creased terribly and is missing patches. It's really unflattering. I've tried it with and without a primer and still haven't gotten it to hold up on my lids. I think this color and thin, light formula would probably work better on someone with drier lids.

I think Clinique did a really smart thing by giving you a sampling of their different lip crayon formulas. The sheerest of the bunch was the Chubby Stick Baby Tint in Poppin' Poppy which looks very orange in the package but actually just gives the lips a very sheer, peachy pink wash. It's perfect for when you have no mirror but just want to throw something on to give a bit of glow to the lips. The Clinique Chubby Stick in Curvy Candy is their original lip crayon formula and the color is a beautiful pink rose. It's pigmented and really perks up the face with minimal effort. The last lip crayon is the Chubby Stick Intense in Mightiest Maraschino. This baby is a super pigmented, classic cool-toned red. I don't wear red lipstick often, but it's nice to have one that's so smooth and easy to use for the special occasions when I do. One thing I can say is all of the Clinique Chubby Sticks for Lips felt light, smooth and incredibly hydrating on the lips. They're just so comfortable to wear and with the crayon formula, really easy to apply. The wear time was pretty decent for a lip crayon and didn't fade in an unflattering or drying way.

Overall, I think Clinique's Whole Lotta Chubby set was a great deal at $25. It includes a very wearable and wide-range sampling of their products and the mini crayons are all actually an impressive size that'll give you months of use. Even though the eye tint didn't really work for my eye lids, I wouldn't really hold it against the set. I think this was a great way for me to try a sampling of Clinique's Chubby Sticks and I will definitely be using the cheek and lip balms on a regular basis.

Since Christmas is right around the corner I would recommend picking this baby up to give as a gift. I think this set would be perfect for someone who is either a makeup beginner, someone who doesn't have much time to get ready in the morning and wants something fuss-free, someone who is a bit lazy when it comes to makeup but still wants to look put together or just someone who loves trying new products and playing with their makeup. I highly recommend this set and if you're a lazy makeup lover like me, I'd say go try it out.
