A NYX Haul & First Impressions

I've been in a very hauly mood lately, which is obviously not the best for my wallet or my dwindling makeup storage space but great for playing with new products (and posting about it). I placed an order to NYX recently to pick up a few old favorites I needed to stock up on and try some new products and saved quite a bit with a 25% off code. Here's what I got and what I thought.

The first thing I wanted to try was NYX's new Gotcha Covered Concealer. It's a thick, incredibly pigmented concealer that feels very similar to It Cosmetics' Bye Bye Under Eye. It's even just as hard to squeeze out of the tube. I bought the lightest shade, Ivory, which is actually too light for me. Because of this I've been using it under my foundation, under my eyes, to really brighten my dark circles and highlight the center of my face. It contains coconut oil which adds an extra bit of hydration and gives it a nice, creamy texture that blends well and leaves almost a slightly tacky feel. This concealer definitely needs to be set with some kind of powder to lock it in place and keep it from creasing but if offers amazing coverage. Personally, I'll only ever be using this as an under eye concealer as the coverage is fantastic but the formula caused me to break out. It's a good option if you're looking for a drugstore under eye concealer that'll hydrate and really cover your dark circles.

I've been a fan of NYX's Butter Glosses for years but I really wanted to try some of their other lip product. I started off by adding their new Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffle in Plush to my basket, as Emily Noel raved about the texture. The color is a gorgeous cool rose that looks gorgeous on both lips and cheeks. The texture is creamy and almost pillowy like a marshmallow. It feels airy and lightweight on the lips but still leaves them comfortably hydrated. It leaves a matte finish to the lips and though the wear-time isn't amazing the diamond shaped applicator makes it super easy to slap on some more. Plus, it smells like vanilla cake batter!

I also wanted to try some of their older lip products that I've hear people rave about. I picked up their Retractable Lip Liner in Nectar and Slim Lip Pencil in Mauve. I kind of just looked at swatches online and picked colors that appealed to me. I originally thought I'd prefer the formula of the Retractable Lip Liner because retractable liners tend to be a bit creamier and easier to apply than traditional pencils but Nectar has an almost metallic, reflective finish that just looks so odd to me. The pink shade is lovely but the finish is just not for me. The Slim Lip Pencil is the real winner as the mauve color is gorgeous and the pencil is creamier than I first thought. It's quickly become a favorite.

I also picked up one of their cult-favorite Soft Matte Lip Creams in Cannes. I totally see why people rave about these. The formula is lightweight and quickly dries to a matte finish without being drying. The formula lasted several hours on my lips without flaking or fading in an unflattering way. The color is a beautiful russet rose that I can't get enough of. And the smell! Vanilla cake heaven!

Knowing that I already love the formula of NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil, I picked up the colors Yogurt (a shimmery golden champagne) and Milk (a creamy, matte white). Milk is actually a favorite of mine for popping on the inner corners of my eyes to really make me look wide awake. These pencils are smooth, blendable, and very pigmented, with a long wear-time that makes it through a full work day without a primer underneath.

My final repurchase was my beloved Powder Blush in Taupe, which is my absolute favorite powder for contouring. The cool-toned taupe blush is a perfect shade for creating shadows and hollows on light skin tones in a way that looks natural but is quite buildable. I have some higher-end contour powders and bronzers but this is always the product I seem to reach for. If you have light skin and want to give contouring a go, this is absolutely the product I would recommend.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with my haul. I ended up getting all of these products for around $37, (which I think was a great deal) and only ended up disliking one of them. Have you tried any of these products? Any other NYX products (or shades) you'd recommend I try? If you have any questions about any of these products please let me know in the comments below.
