In
Lavinia Kent’s scorching new eBook original novella, two wounded
hearts find that only the sweet release of temptations long denied
can heal the pain of past sins.
Five
years ago, Miss Sarah Swilp had been deeply in love with Jonathan
Perry, the second son of an earl. But when Jonathan inherited his
aunt’s lands and money, he turned cold, demanding Sarah’s
maidenhood and uttering those unforgettably cruel words: “You do
know I won’t marry you.” She refused, of course, and that spoiled
everything. Now, just as she’s agreed to a marriage of convenience,
Jonathan reappears—and after Sarah gets one look at his lean, hard
body, the embers of desire burst back into flame.

MY THOUGHTS
After years apart, Sarah comes face to face with the man she loved with all her heart and was ready to give herself to, until he uttered the heat-breaking words: "You do know I won't marry you." Right in the middle of a hot and heavy makeout session that was swiftly moving into more he cynically points out that he will never marry her, even if she gives him her virginity and all of the love she holds in her heart. Little does Jonathan realize that an unmarried woman of the time, especially one with a debt-ridden, wastrel of a father, has nothing if she does not have her honor and her maidenhead. Although Jonathan intended the statement as a test of Sarah's love, it's one that Sarah could never have passed.
Five years after that night, Sarah is now a pale, disillusioned version of the vibrant, laughing girl Jonathan once loved. Those feelings of inferiority and unworthiness that Jonathan stirred have grown along with her family's dept. Her last chance at marrying and having a family of her own means wedding one of her father's friends and she has resigned herself to that fate when she encounters Jonathan at a ball. Despite years of silence and all the feelings of anger and resentment they each harbor in their hearts, the desire they once felt is sparked to life again when they're in each others presence.
Deciding that she deserves a night of passion like the ones she's always dreamed of before formally accepting the proposal, Sarah makes her own proposition - one night for Jonathan and Sarah to finally have the passionate encounter they always wanted. Though Jonathan is reluctant at first believing Sarah might be attempting to trap him into marriage, the two meet and share a night of seduction where Jonathan's darker fantasies are exposed. The two also discuss that long ago night and their true feelings come to light.
Though there is a lot of built up anger and resentment clouding their feelings for one another, Sarah and Jonathan are incredibly hot together. There's tons of dirty talk to ignite the sex scenes in the novel and when their real feelings are revealed it's a very cathartic and uplifting moment. It was interesting to see both sides of the story and how they each let their pride dictate their actions. I really loved these two together although it's so sad that they could have had years together if not for a miscommunication on their part.
I truly applaud Lavinia Kent's ability to bring such a wide spectrum of emotions out of her characters and to invoke that same kind of emotional response in her readers as they experience the heroine's struggles. If you're looking for an erotic historical romance with lots of powerful, stirring emotion, SARAH'S SURRENDER is definitely one to check out. It's not a very long read but it sure is a satisfying one.
