Blog Tour Review | DIRTY TALK by Megan Erickson

BLURB
Brent Payton has a reputation for wanting to have fun, all the time. It’s well-earned after years of ribbing his brothers and flirting with every girl he meets, but he’s more than just a good time, even though nobody takes the time to see it. When a new girl walks into his family’s garage with big thoughtful eyes and legs for days, this mechanic wants something serious for the first time.

Ivy Dawn is done with men, all of them. She and her sister uprooted their lives for them too many times and she’s not willing to do it again. Avoiding the opposite sex at all costs seems easy enough, until the sexy mechanic with the dirty mouth bursts into her life.

Brent can’t resist the one woman who sees past his devil-may-care facade and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But Ivy has secrets she hasn’t shared and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she’s willing to take one more chance on love or let him go forever.

MY THOUGHTS
Megan Erickson has done it again with a fantastic new addition to the Mechanic of Love series that, in my opinion, surpasses the first book. Brent is the lovable flirt that is always there for a good laugh but that no one really takes seriously, which supremely frustrates him. Especially when he finally finds a woman that ties him in knots and his reputation as a fun-loving ladies' man means Ivy won't open up to him. Though Brent has often played up his goofy side as a defense mechanism, he's always been someone his family could count on. He has a hidden serious side and a secret dream that begin to earn him the respect he deserves from his family and the love of a good woman.

Ivy sees the hidden depths in Brent that he tries so hard to disguise with his flirtatious nature. She is new to town, looking for a new beginning for with her daughter and sister, and doesn't have the best history with trusting men. Brent slowly proves himself with his gentle, kind heart and his seductive smile. She feels safe with him, which is a first for her, and her men-fearing daughter feels the same way. Ivy and Brent really find what they've been missing in each other, along with a love neither one of them ever could have expected.

As much as I absolutely adored Ivy and Brent together (what can I say...these two are just so darn cute) there were a few things that really took this novel above and beyond. Brent's relationship with his sweet, playful puppy Honeybear and his friendship with his hermit neighbor left me with so many smiles and awwwww moments. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love when authors allow pets to play a bigger role in romances and really bring out their personalities. If you have pets you know they can be a big part of your life and a character unto themselves, so I always respect that level of reality in novels. There were also a ton of personal touches, like Violet's love of sparkly pink shoes and tiaras, but also her obsession with the Avengers. Why can't little girls love both? Because let me tell you, they absolutely do! I also loved that she dressed up as Hawkeye for Halloween. All the feminist feels for this!

I really wasn't expecting it, but with a title like DIRTY TALK, I probably should have. Brent might be all fun and flirty in the street but he sure knows how to break out the dirty talk in the sheets. Sizzling heat levels, guys! There was a lot of slow seduction in building the relationship between Brent and Ivy which worked perfectly for their personalities and the trust and evolution that needed to happen, but those sparks of intensity and heat really kept you yearning for these two to get together. Between the sexiness of Brent's dirty mouth and the sweetness of his interactions with Violet, he really is the full package.

The single-mom-finding-love trope usually doesn't spark my interest but I absolutely adored DIRTY TALK. The characters were funny, sexy and quirky and I would love to see more of them in future books in the series. C'mon, obviously Alex and Delilah need their own stories! There was something just overwhelming satisfying about the novel and I can't wait to read more from Megan Erickson. I love a good blue collar hero, and if you do too DIRTY TALK is a romance you can't miss. I promise it'll leave a smile on your face.

And no, she still can’t reach the stupid top shelf.
