Worth the Hype? The Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer

There's been so much chatter in the beauty world about Urban Decay's Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer and how it measures up to the cult favorite NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. A few months ago I picked it up after hearing Lily Pebbles rave about it and have been testing it on and off to see how I really feel about it. Here's what I've discovered.

The formula of the Urban Decay concealer is in fact very lightweight and does not sink into fine likes or pores (yay!). The pigmentation is fantastic and it gives you a great level of coverage. I think the key to applying it is to use just a tiny amount and work in thin layers to avoid creasing. It can be a bit easy to go overboard because the innovative, flat, paddle shape of the wand somehow holds enough product to conceal your whole face. No need to go back in and re-dip for more product! The applicator is also flexible so you can get into those harder to reach areas.

Considering the amount of product you actually need to use, this bottle should last me quite a while, which is a plus over the NARS concealer which I feel runs out pretty quickly. Where I feel like this falls short against the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is in the illumination department. This just doesn't brighten up your under-eyes and diffuse the light as well. It packs the coverage but not the radiance, so just keep that in mind when considering what your concealing needs are. I also feel like the UD concealer has an unpleasant chemical smell - like Whiteout and rubbing alcohol. It doesn't bother me enough to keep me from using it but it's definitely not a plus.

Overall, the Urban Decay concealer offers a great amount of coverage with the ease of application you get from a doe-foot applicator. It's a great option for a high-end concealer! Unfortunately the shade range is a bit confusingly labeled and limited but the packaging offers some serious improvements over the NARS concealer (why is it so impossible to get the remaining concealer out of that tube? I see you in there!). In terms of the formula though, I feel like I might have to give it to the NARS concealer. Although I think it has slightly less coverage than the UD, it adds that extra glow that really helps with my dark circles. But in terms of the full package...I might just have to give it to the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer for coverage, packaging, and usability. If they were to make a Luminous Naked Skin Concealer I would be all over that. Take note, Urban Decay.
