2 Valentine's Looks | Sweet Vs. Sultry

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and whether you're going out for a brunch or spending a romantic evening in, I've got the look for you.

BASE
For both looks I started by priming my skin with the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner Primer and used the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation to even out my skin. To cover up my dark circles and any blemishes (there were several) I used the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer. I topped that off with the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder to set my makeup and the Nyx Powder Blush in Taupe to contour. I used my trusty Pixi Natural Brow Duo in Deep Brunette to define my brows a bit and topped off both looks with some swipes of my Maybelline Colossal Cat-Eyes Mascara.

SWEET
For a more understated date look I wanted something subtle that would be cute and polished but still wear well throughout the day. This look is all about pastels and a bit of shine. I wanted to use some creamier products to add a bit of lit-from-within glow.

On my eyes I applied Elizabeth Mott's Pop Goes The Shadow in Champagne all over my lids. It's a creamy, shimmery, golden champagne shadow with an almost metallic finish. I added some oomph to the crease and under my eyes with the middle purple color in my Almay Intense i-Color Smoky-i Kit for Brown Eyes. The lavender color has a beautiful shimmer that catches the light and makes my eyes pop. I added a little bit of NYC City Proof Eyeliner in Dark Brown to the outer corners of my lashes to make them look a bit fuller. I finished it off with a little bit of the Jordana 12hr Made to Last Eyeshadow Pencil in Eternal White in the inner corners of my eyes to give me a bit of a bambi-like innocent look and make my eyes look a bigger.

On my cheeks I used the Maybelline Master Glaze Blush Stick in Pinch Pink, stippling the product on with my Real Techniques Stippling Brush. This brush lets you get the perfect amount of product onto your cheeks and makes sure that everything is evenly applied. I kept up the pink trend with a nudey pink gloss on my lips, the Nyx Butter Gloss in Tiramisu. To up the glow factor I applied my Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded as a cream highlighter on my cupid's bow and the tops of my cheekbones. I think the finished look is subtle, sweet and lovely.

SULTRY
I'm probably one of the least sexy people you'll ever meet but I do love me a good smokey eye. For my seductive Valentine's look I started with the Maybelline Color Tatoo in Bad to the Bronze. It's a beautiful, long-wearing cream shadow that makes the perfect base for a smokey eye.

I couldn't think of anything that would fit the sultry bill as well as my Nude 'Tude Palette from TheBalm. How adorable is this packaging? Nothing says seduction like some pin-ups, am I right? I swept the color Sultry onto my lids, building the intensity in the crease and under my eyes with a bit of the shade Sophisticated. To add a bit more warmth and intensity to the look I added a touch of Sexy into the outer V of my eye. I lined my upper and lower waterline with my Urban Decay Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet.

Since it's Valentine's Day and everyone wants to get a bit of kissing action in, I didn't want to use anything on my lips that would make a mess. For a just-bitten look I used TheBalm's Stainiac Lip Stain. It really sinks into the lips and keeps them looking rosy long after you've applied it. I even used the stain on my cheeks to give myself a natural, been-running-through-the-woods flush. I topped my lips off with a bit of Nivea Milk & Honey Lip Balm to add a touch of shine and some moisturization. Because chapped lips are definitely not sexy.

I'm really happy with the way both looks turned out! Unfortunately in the photos it doesn't really look like they're all that different because my camera wasn't really picking up the colors. Womp womp. I almost didn't include photos of the looks on myself because all the pictures came out awful but I figured it was owed so here they are:

The sweet look on the left was photographed during the day with natural light whereas the sultry look on the right was taken at night with flash. The whole lighting situation was a nightmare but I hope you enjoyed my ideas for some Valentine's date looks. Do you have any big plans for Saturday? Going out or staying in?

  1. Cute! I've been so curious about the NYX butter glosses and wasn't sure which color to try. Tiramasu looks so pretty on you that I just might have to try it :)
