Monthly Beauty Favorites | October 2014

It's monthly favorites time! October was a month for keeping things simple and transitioning my products to what will work best for me in the colder months. When the temperature drops, my skin and scalp naturally get drier and the products I use need to be adapted to compensate for that.

To scrub off dry skin and keep my body polished and exfoliated I've been using Tree Hut's Shea Sugar Scrub in Brazil Nut. It's impossible to explain how amazing this scrub smells. It's like a mix of  caramel and coffee, with a fine, grainy texture that leaves my skin feeling soft and smelling delicious.

I've always struggled with a dry scalp but it gets so much worse in the Fall and Winter. The drier weather leaves my scalp feeling itchy and uncomfortable and the only shampoo that has been helping with that lately is the OGX Scalp Therapy Australian Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. As much as I hate the smell of tea tree oil, this shampoo really smells more like mint which leaves my scalp and my nose both feeling refreshed.

To treat any blemishes that popped up over the month, I relied on my absolute favorite spot treatment, AcneFree Terminator 10. This stuff is definitely strong but nothing works as well for me at treating spots overnight. I can't tell you how many bottles I've bought over the years but this is definitely a forever repurchase on my list.

I've been keeping my makeup really simple this month by relying on a few fool-proof staples. I've been using the Maybelline Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze to create a one-step bronze eye look. It's long lasting, very pigmented and gives you a wash of color that creates a multi-dimensional look when the light hits it.

To give my lips a rosy, natural tint of red I've been loving TheBalm's Stainiac Lip & Cheek Stain. And for a perky wash on pink on my cheeks to wake up my complexion I've been using my trusty Revlon Powder Blush in Racy Rose. This is the kind of pink blush that leaves you looking fresh but not childish and works for most skin tones.

In October I cut off 6 inches of my hair. With the new cut I needed to update my styling routine. I decided to dust off my curling wand to add some texture and volume to my shoulder length hair. It looks great curled but I needed to make sure that I wasn't damaging it with all the heat-styling. To prime my hair and protect it from heat damage I've been trusting Bumble & Bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Primer. This conditioning spray not only protects but smooths and conditions my strands leaving them soft and manageable.

As a finishing cream I've been using the Alterna Caviar CC Cream to smooth out any frizz and add some shine. This products is also heat-protective and is somewhat interchangeable with the Bumble & Bumble spray but personally, I think this order and combination works best for me. Plus, the Alterna cream smells like citrus and herbs and it's a lovely way to start off my hair day.

What products have you been gravitating towards this past month? Any new loves I should check out?
