Monthly Beauty Favorites | August 2014

August in NYC has been a hot sticky mess. And when it's hot, I become extremely lazy with styling my hair. Who wants to bother with heat-styling when they already feel like they're melting?
This month I've been styling my hair using the L'Oreal TXT It Tousle Waves Spray, which gives you soft, beachy waves without making your hair feel like it's caked in salt and gunk. It has a soft, semi-floral scent that I actually really love. And if for some reason I decide I do want to blow dry my hair, this spray doubles as a heat protector.

I've also relied on my L'Oreal Oleo Therapy Deep Recovery Mask to keep my hair shiny, soft and moisturized. It has a thick, balmy texture and I use it as a deep conditioner a few times a week to give my hair a little treat.

I'm the unlucky owner of a face that sweats when it's hot out. Yes, that's as awful as it sounds. With this weather, I don't want to put too much product on my face because that just makes the situation worse. The Jouer Matte Moisture Tint is the perfect tinted moisturizer for oily-skinned girls like myself. Not only does it give you pretty good coverage for a tinted moisturizer (medium coverage, I would say) but it's also truly matte. Sadly, it's not cheap and my tube is almost all out but I would say it's worth the money because it's pretty much everything I want and need from a tinted moisturizer.

To keep my makeup from slipping or wearing away throughout the day I've been using the Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray. Just a few spritzes and my makeup stays in place, even when everything around me feels like it's melting.

To give my skin a good, deep cleanse and take away all the residue from a day in the heat, I've been loving my Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub, which I received in my May Ipsy bag. A little bit of this goes a long way and it has a lemony smell and tiny scrubby particles which leave my skin feeling smooth and refreshed. I always like to use a scrub a few times a week to exfoliate but this one has really been winning my heart this month.

My cuticles are usually so dry and per EssieButton's recommendation, I bought the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover to try and clear some of that away so that I could give myself a manicure. Let me just say, if they included the word miracle on the packaging they wouldn't be exaggerating. You just dab a little bit of this gel on clean cuticles, let it sit for 10 seconds and then push back your cuticles. After one minute wash the product off and you're done. That's it. Your cuticles are clean, smooth and somehow moisturized. If your dry cuticles are keeping your at-home mani from looking fresh, try this and get ready to be impressed.

My last beauty favorite for this month is a favorite every month. No matter how many other mascaras I try, nothing works as well for me as the Maybelline Volum' Express Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara. I didn't understand why companies made curved brushes until trying this mascara. The bend in the brush perfectly matches the natural curve of your eyelid. The formula isn't too wet or too dry and it never smudges around my eyes during the day. No flakes, no clumps, and nothing holds a curl as well as this. I know waterproof mascaras are supposed to hold a curl better than regular mascara but this one even beats other waterproof mascaras that I've tried. If you have straight lashes and want something that will hold a curl and give you some volume without sacrificing definition, this is it.

And that's it for the month of August! If you have any questions about any of the products mentioned in this post just let me know.
